The About Us section of our site provides information on our ethos and principles, here we aim to show you how we introduce new children to the Nursery and the day to day pattern of our work. Click here to view A typical day at the Oakwood Nursery
Children can start at the Oakwood Nursery once they are 6 months of age. Settling in visits All children are unique and the amount of time that a child takes to settle into our Nursery can vary enormously. Therefore, children will be given time to settle in at their own pace, so as to make them feel welcome, safe and confident in a new environment.
We encourage parents to help during this time Key Worker We have a 'Partnership of Choice' for the key worker system, we have linked staff with children who have built relationships or are requested by the parent/carers.Keyworkers are responsible for keeping Learning Journeys up to date and assessing their development, all staff will be involved in making observations and working on individual next steps. Daily Diary Each child receives a daily diary which provides communication between home and nursery. In the diary we write information on how well your child's day has gone, what activities they have been involved in, what they have eaten and information on nappy changes etc. Sleeping We will follow guidelines on Sleeping as set out by the Department of Health and Foundation of Sudden Infant Death and do take account of individual wishes. All of our policies are available within the Parent Information area of our web site, however you can also click here to view our Sleeping Policy.
Meals/Snacks Parents of babies 6 months-1 year old are asked to provide all meals and snacks. Fresh food will need to be provided daily and formula milk bottles must be supplied ready made each day in labelled containers and bottles.
We will be providing a hot meal and dessert at lunch time by a catering company called Chartwells. The meals are prodused in the kitchen of Oakwood School. The menus meet the Food Based Standards for nursery schools. They provide a rotating 3 week menu that changes regularly. Menus are available to take home. The daily charge for lunch is £1.79. Morning and afternoon snacks are offered daily with milk and water (water is accessible at all times). Fruit and raw vegetables are offered daily.
